POKOTABI / Takeno
多け乃食堂
Tucked along a Tsukiji 6-chome alley, Takeno draws seafood enthusiasts with daily simmered fish set meals, sashimi platters, and crisp mixed fried fish.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Stepping past the traditional noren curtain in an alleyway slightly removed from the bustle of the Tsukiji Outer Market leads straight into Takeno. Strips of handwritten menu tags line the walls, and the aroma of simmering fish imparts the easygoing charm of a harbor diner. With both counter stools and dining tables, the space caters comfortably to solo meals as well as small gatherings.
A cornerstone of the menu is the simmered fish teishoku, selected directly from the chalkboard of the day's catch. Depending on seasonal market hauls, species like filefish, flounder, splendid alfonsino, or blackthroat seaperch simmer gently in a sweet and savory house broth until deeply coated. The sauce-soaked flesh pairs effortlessly with bowls of steamed white rice, complemented by clam or freshwater clam miso soup. Charcoal-grilled offerings, including plain grilled conger eel and salted salmon collar, provide an equally compelling alternative.
Those after clean, raw freshness can turn to the single-diner sashimi platter, featuring two varieties of the day's white-fleshed catch alongside tuna, or opt for the affordable diced tuna set. Tempura meals loaded with shrimp, conger eel, and seasonal vegetables, either on their own or paired with a mini dish of diced tuna, offer satisfying crunch. The assorted fried cutlet set—combining fried shrimp, horse mackerel, and sardine, with small fried oysters in winter—remains another long-standing crowd-pleaser.
Lunchtime draws hearty appetites looking for satisfying fish meals, while evenings see the venue transform into an izakaya where diners share seasonal small plates and sashimi over draft beer and pure-rice sake. Because seating is limited, dinner reservations are advisable to secure a spot. It remains a dependable stop whenever you seek unpretentious, well-prepared fish in Tsukiji.
